Questions Regarding Version 16.2 (more documentation available on the Support Documents page)
Am I required to install Version 16.0 prior to installing Version 16.2?
Yes. You must have Version 16.0 (released in July 2008) installed prior to installing Version 16.2. Failure to install as described may result in conflicts.
Am I required to install Version 16.1 prior to installing Version 16.2?
No. Version 16.2 contains both Version 16.1 and Version 16.2 lessons.
Will I be receiving another set of CDs or DVDs in the mail?
No. Version 16.2 will be available for download in the “Downloads” section of our Community Connection website (http://support.pearsonschool.com).
What courses are included in Version 16.2?
Version 16.2 includes the full English II multimedia course, comprised of 68 all new lessons. We use the designation A to indicate the first semester of a full-year course and B to indicate the second semester.
What should I do if I have already started my students on the original English II A or B course?
Once your student ha s completed his or her current module in the English II A or B (original) course, you can remove that assignment to history and assign the English II A or B (updated) course. Set the next module as current, and the student can continue. For more information about how this will affect any records or reports, please contact Product Support at 1-888-977-7100 or techsupport@pearson.com.
Is the new course prescriptive?
Yes. English II is prescriptive, and can be assigned from the National High School Prescriptive catalog.
Can I assign single modules of English II A or B?
Yes. As with most of our new courseware offerings, English II A and B can be assigned as an entire course, or with specific modules.
Questions Regarding Version 16.0
Do I need to uninstall Version 15 before installing Version 16.0?
No. Version 16.0 can be installed as an upgrade to Version 15, with no removal necessary.
If I have a Version 15 fileserver, what steps do I take to upgrade all of my clients?
First, run the Version 16.0 install on the fileserver. The student stations will detect the new version and update automatically. If you encounter any problems, be sure to check the permissions to the WPORTAL folder on the client stations has MODIFY. For more information on permissions and requirements, please refer to the system requirements documentation.
Will I need to go to each station in each classroom to install portal on the student computers?
No. The NovaNET Version 16.0 release includes a network installer in the form of an MSI package that your network staff can deploy to each station form a central location. For more information on this, refer to the install guide, or call the Product Support Team at 1-888-977-7100.
Can I use the new network install features to install on a Mac?
No. The network install is a tool that can only be used to install on PC clients and servers. There is no network install for Mac computers.
What courses are new to the July 2008 release?
The July 2008 release contains a brand new, full-year Algebra II multimedia course.
Why are there three disks in the install pack that we received in the mail and what is on each one?
The package in the mail contains two CDs and one DVD. The DVD will work on both Mac and PC platforms, while the CDs contain the Windows installers only. If you are on a PC, you can use either the two CDs or the DVD, depending on your hardware and your preference. If you are on a Mac, you will need to use the DVD, or download the courseware from the web.
Can I still install Emerging Reader from the CDs or DVD?
No. The Emerging Reader courses are only available as a download from our Community Connection website, and will only work on Windows 2000.
Will I be able to install NovaNET on a Mac with OS X 10.5 or on a PC with Windows Vista?
Yes. Starting with Version 16.0, NovaNET is supported on the Windows Vista operating systems, as well as Intel Macs and Power PC Macs running OS X. For more information on specific platforms, please refer to the system requirements documentation.
How do I enter exponents into the Algebra II lessons?
There are two ways to enter an exponent in the new Algebra II multimedia lessons: manually typing a caret (^) then the exponent (example: x2 = x^2). The other way is to use the special characters selector, and select the caret.
Can I use the page up key to enter an exponent?
The Page Up key does not work for exponents in the new Algebra II lessons, but will continue to work in other lessons previously released.
Do the Algebra II lessons have a built in calculator?
Yes – there are two calculators available in many Algebra II multimedia lessons – the standard scientific calculator as well as a new graphing calculator. The new graphing calculator (not available in all lessons) allows students to compare the graphs of two different functions at once.
How do I access the Scientific Calculator in the Algebra II lessons?
From any point a lesson, click the Calculator button at the top left. The calculator will activate for student use.
Where do I find directions for using the graphing tool and calculator?
The tool instructions are located in the lesson Math Tools (alg2tool). Also, for additional assistance with the Scientific Calculator, click Help, and select Calculator or click on the Help icon within the calculator itself.
How is the new Special Characters tool used?
In any lesson that requires a special character, (such as < or > or a square root radical), the lesson will have a Special Characters box next to the answer form. If you have questions about this, or would like a tutorial for yourstudents, refer them to Math Tools (alg2tool).

Can I move a student up in a level?
No. You can only move a student to the next level.
Students are not able to record, how do I fix this?
Check the connection of the microphone/headphone into the computer.Try a different microphone. If still not working, check the microphone settings on the computer from the settings options.
